“Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.” – Rumi

Actually speaking, I was new to the philosophy of choosing a Word of the Year until got inspired by Laurel. And also I was enjoying my blogging break with my family during December. But this was urging me to decide upon the word for this year. And thought this will be more encouraging to make a return back for blogging.

I selected the WORD of the year 2016 as EMPATHY. I am sure EMPATHY has helped me in

  • Understanding Others
  • Coping with Diversity
  • Fostering good, pleasurable and positive feelings
  • Being Happier
  • Achieving inner peace
  • Connecting with people
  • Improving relationship
  • Empowering Myself
  • Knowing GOD

I hope I went by the WORD by all means.

My Word Of The Year 2017 – Mindful – not because this is a trending buzzword now, but because I already love Yoga and Meditation. Also I started enjoying happiness and abundance by practicing Metta Meditation from last year. So naturally wanted to be mindful in every walk of my life in this year.

Being mindful is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

I love to be mindful in things I do on daily basis and this year I would like to explore more on :

  • Mindful Eating
  • Mindful Parenting
  • Mindful Thinking
  • Mindful Speaking
  • Mindful Listening
  • Mindful Reading

Do You Believe That A Word Can Change Your Life? If so, What Is Your Word Of The Year 2017 ???

  1. It was a long break Vasantha, welcome back. Its a mindful word for the year 🙂
Saving your list of mindfulness- but what is challenging for me is “mindful speaking”
Rest of them are something I am able to follow.

  2. Hi Vasantha, this is my first time on your blog. Lovely write up. And same pinch, since one of the words I have chosen for this year is mindfulness too. My main word for this year is Focus since I seem to have a lack of focus in anything and everything I do. All the best for the new year and hope you have a mindful year.

  3. such a wonderful word to pick Vasantha- I have been practicing mindfulness form a long time and I can vouch by it. I have become a better human being through the practice and would love to hear the same from you too.

  4. Mindful – Quite a popular word these days, I think. And I don’t think it’s without reason. I suspect we’re all trying to be better human beings, so it makes sense to choose such a word.

Good luck, Vasantha! And Happy New Year!

  5. Welcome back Vasantha.. and u sure are back with a bang with the lovely words. Empathy is am element which the world so badly requires. And yes we need to be mindful towards ourselves and our loved ones.

  6. You have picked up a lovely word Vasantha – I am also loving the mindful practice of meditation daily and hope to kickstart my lzybones into the Yoga also soon enough.

  7. If “mindful” is the word , then for me it would be mindful eating since I have some stomach issues. And for others I wish for mindful speaking coz “words can inspire and words can destroy….”
Happy new year to you Vasantha.

Huh, I’ve never picked a word for the year before. But I am focusing on one virtue to grow in eachl month! Things like “faith” “love” “meekness.” I guess I’m being mindful in growing in virtue!

  9. Good to have you back Vasantha! And Mindfulness is certainly something that we all should be actively pursuing in our lives. Good luck to you – and I do hope that your chosen word of the year bears fruit.
