Home Town Treats: Kovilpatti Kadalai Mittai

The first special item to feature in this Home Town Treats series is our Kovilpatti Kadalai Mittai (Groundnut Chikki) or (Peanut Candy).

About Our Town Kovilpatti

Kovilpatti is my native place and I live here for 45 years though being traveled to different places both in India and abroad. Kovilpatti is a small town in Tuticorin District, Tamilnadu, India. It’s famous not only for Kadalai Mittai but also for Matches. Our town is called Chikki Capital of South India and Candy Paradise.

Kadalai Mittai (Groundnut Chikki) or (Peanut Candy)

Kadalai Mittai is a candy made from Peanut and Jaggery. It’s so unique item of Kovilpatti with a GI (Geographical Identification) tag.

Ingredients:  

This crunchy sweet snack is made using roasted groundnuts, rice flour, gram flour, jaggery, and glucose and infused with cardamom for a divine snacking experience.

  1. I didn’t know this had a GI from your hometown! It is my favourite chikkiand MUST have it while traveling to my hometown by train. You’re right about chikki being a healthy snack . And thanks for joining up with #FlavoursomeTuesdays.

  2. My hometown candy treat may well be something called halvah, which is Middle Eastern in origin but I grew up with it. It’s a sesame candy, very sweet and caloric.
