What Goes Around Comes Back Around

Have you ever wondered why some people suffer even if they do good? Have you noticed the pattern in some happenings in your life? What was your previous birth – cow, snake, eagle, worm or king? Have you ever thought about your rebirth? Do you know 10 births of Hindu God Vishnu? Do you believe you can get out of this cycle?
Karma is a core concept in the Indian religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, although their specific views on karma vary. As an Indian and Hindu, I strongly believe in Karma and Reincarnation.

Reincarnation is the philosophical or religious concept that the soul or spirit, after biological death, can begin a new life in a new body. Hindu gods are said to have reincarnated ( Avatar): Lord Vishnu is known for his ten incarnations, the Dashavatars.

Karma is the executed “deed”, “work”, “action”, or “act”, and it is also the “object”, the “intent”.

The entire universal process that gives rise to the cycle of death and rebirth, governed by karma, is referred to as Samsara.

Swami Sivananda Saraswati puts it like this:

“Some people die when they are eighty years old; some die when they are in the womb; some die at twenty; some at forty. What is the cause for the variation? Who has fixed the span of life for all? This clearly proves that there is the theory of Karma, that there is one Omniscient Lord, who is the dispenser of the fruits of the actions of the Jivas, who fixes the span of life of the Jivas in accordance with their nature of Karma or actions, who knows the exact relation between Karmas and their fruits.

Why I Believe :

  1. It’s a kind of action and reaction principle. Related with Newton’s Law.
  2. Doing good is always good.
  3. Some places and incidents tend to have seen or occurred already in our life.
  4. I accept there is one Supreme Power – GOD.
  5. Mukthi or Mosha is the way out to break the cycle.
  6. Being positive improves mental health, relationship.
  7. It helps to see the same divine in all living creatures.
  8. It aids in developing empathy towards others.
  9. We have the freedom and choice to free ourselves.
  10. It helps me to happily move on.

  1. I too believe on Supreme power and doing good. But, Are people suffering in this life itself when they do something bad? This makes me think. Sometimes, people who do bad are also happy and sometimes, who does good are also suffering. It might be difficult for me to understand this Karma until I read more on this topic.

  3. Love the quote by Goudey. I believe that we come to evolve our souls, that there are no chance encounters, that we all have that spark of divinity and that there is one Supreme power who loves and cares for us unconditionally whether we walk in faith or not. Lovely post.

  4. I believe in Karma, but not as a simple cause and effect type of relationship. I think there is much deeper reason for why some things happen, especially those that our minds and hearts consider as ‘negative’ or ‘bad’ things. Otherwise why would there be so much evil in the world? Karma is only part of the explanation, I think. The other big reason why certain things happen – esp the bad things – is that we have to evolve through those negative experiences. Both individually and as collectives. I have a cousin, much older than me, who is always so angry every time he sees something bad happening to someone he considers as a good person. He always has questions like – how can God allow so much bad stuff in this world? I sometimes feel like having a good discussion with him about it, but it is his angry approach to all this that stops me. All I can do is answer these questions for myself, keep searching for my answers.
And yes I definitely believe in rebirth. That’s the most logical law of nature that one can think of – otherwise why have all this drama on this planet called Earth? 🙂

  5. Thank you for educating me on your beliefs. I think we have common ground of love and acting in kindness in both our religions. Our Christianity speaks of grace and love.

  6. Karma – supposed to be paid back. And it will. Question is when? Often we see many bad people live so happily and enjoy life. I understand that one cannot buy happiness, but the money does buy things needed for living worry-less.
