With Pain Comes Strength

I was in a forced blogging break due to my eye surgery. I was in bed for almost one month. New year 2018 started for me like this only. But I am grateful for all the love and affection from my hubby and son. Being handicapped for over a month made me to travel deeper within.

And when I read about Shalini Saraswathi in a Tamil magazine, Her struggle really motivated me that with pain comes strength. I really salute this incredible woman Shalini Saraswathi for running the TCS 10K marathon after losing both her arms & legs, as a Blade Runner.

Strength

Shalini Saraswathi who lost both legs, and hands, to a rare bacterial infection has defied all odds to become an audacious blade runner. An engineer by profession, she’s 37, from Bengaluru, overcoming her grievous condition to which she lost both her legs from below her knees and each of her hands.

In an inspiring show of grit, the quadruple amputee took part in an open 10,000m run recently, just three years after fighting with a rare, life-threatening disease.

Her coach, Aiyappa, says he has never treated Shalini any differently from the other athletes. She has now also resumed her career as Deputy General Manager with First Source Solutions. But it is the little things in life that she values and hopes to inspire others to appreciate as well.

“When I Run, I feel Like I Win Over My Body”

– Shalini Saraswathi

Inspiring by her words and life, I would also like to add that “When I Write, I feel Like I Win Over My Poor Vision”. Strength lies in our mind and not in our body.

  1. So that’s where you were all these days. I do hope you are now back to normal and we can read your wonderfully inspirational stories like this one. Honestly, when I think of grumbling over my little problems I feel ashamed when I read stories like the one you’ve featured today. Running with no limbs! It takes the story – I cried because I had no shoes to another level altogether.
Thanks for sharing . Take care.

  2. Lovely. What an inspiration Shalini Saraswathi is! May she keep on running. I’m sorry to hear you had been unwell, but am delighted you’ve come back to WATWB. Thanks for sharing.
