Amaara: Feeding The Future

We, at #WATWB highlighted an inspiring guy Mr. Karthik Kumarand another loving lady Ms. Vidya Raju in our earlier posts.

This post highlights a selfless service organization Amaara: Breast Milk Bank. Amaara, which started its first public human milk bank in Delhi in 2016, has launched its next bank in Bengaluru in association with Breast Milk Foundation last year.

Human Milk Bank is a new and innovative idea. Amaara is a Human Milk Bank organization that collects donated human milk, ensures milk safety and quality and makes it available for infants in need. They strive to make quality human breast milk available to all premature and critically ill babies.

Amaara’s goal is to provide an opportunity for all qualified donors across Delhi/NCR to donate their milk by making the donor process convenient and confidential. They exist to provide premature and critically ill babies with the best possible nutrition for survival and healthy development.

Milk Bank - Feeding The Future

Dr. Ankit Srivastava, co-founder, Amaara, says “This is a new concept and we are yet to break the taboo amongst the mothers. We are encouraging mothers by educating them and creating awareness about this novel thing they can do voluntarily”.

“Human Milk Bank is a new concept and we are yet to break the taboo amongst the mothers.”

– Dr. Ankit Srivastava

This milk bank runs for free of cost and no single rupee is collected by the mothers who come and donate or anyone for that matter.

  1. a humane initiative indeed. And an answer to so many issues new mothers face. I wish such initiatives spread across the country to touch the loves of many many more mothers

  2. This is indeed a noble idea to collect breast milk and deliver it to needy babies and that too at no cost to anyone. I am surprised and would like to know how is this organisation overcoming the taboos and other challenging notions around breast milk
