Chill Chat With Cool Blogger Ms. Romila – #C3B #MyFriendAlexa

With the very first of “Chill Chat With Cool Bloggers” series,  I feel extremely happy to feature my best blog buddy and a veteran blogger Romila of Coffee, Conversations & Choice aka novemberschild. She blogs about Opinions, Books & Creative Writing.

Though Romila is a known personality to our readers through her Mother’s Day message, Blog Success Mantra, #HappySunday Featured Blogger for two times, Guest Post and Ebook, we had our chill chat to know more about her blogging journey and her fun side. Carry on to enjoy her words of wisdom.

Chill Chat With Cool Blogger Ms. Romila

Hello, Romila! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Romila: Best friend, Writer, Soulmate, Reader, Problem Solver,  Entrepreneur & Organizer. (Stumbled in any order, all these make me an awesome personality).

Q1.An ever since moment in your blogger life or your turning point in blogging.

Romila: It was the year 2011 when I shifted to WordPress from Blogspot & joined twitter and realized the power of social media.  Visitors, visits, readers, Alexa, blogging communities, contests all of them increased and made me a social media influencer through my blog and also got me work and recognition.

Q2. Your definition of blog success.

Romila: I would suggest 4 principles of blog success as

  1. Maintain a regular publishing schedule as you have a responsibility to your readers.
  2. Building a blog readership takes hard work beyond just writing amazing content. Readers don’t check out your content because they have nothing else to do, show that you value the attention.
  3. Use your editorial calendar to create a set of on-going features that resonate with your readers and to ensure that you’re covering the topics of interest
  4. Become part of a community whether it’s on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Google+. You have to help others without any expectation of return.

Once your blog is successful, whether you’re recognized for an award show or meet your objectives, stop and consider what you want to do next since new opportunities will present themselves. Decide what you want to do both short-term and long-term. If you don’t set specific goals and plans, you won’t achieve your objectives.

Q3. Your top 2 regular practices that have helped you in blogging.

Romila: It is so important to practice writing as often as you can. I write every day.  Consistency is the biggest key to blogging and writing. I always let my thoughts on the subject I am writing about pour out of me. By writing every day you’ll quickly become comfortable with creating content for your blog.

Reading out loud is also important because blog posts are usually written in a conversational manner. This means that you need to check if readers will be able to feel that your writings are speaking to them.

There is nothing that renders a blog useless than a post riddled with careless spelling mistakes. As blogs are often statement or opinion based, it is likely to have points or arguments. Always go through the post many times to ensure it is free of grammar or syntax errors before you hit the publish key.

Q4. Your motivational factor for your best blog.

Romila: I consider everything I write as best, let it be for the blog/website/publication or in print medium. The motivation procedure as I call it – I track the progress of the article from its draft stage to publish stage to receiving feedback from readers, I reward myself for every small, medium and big success I get as a writer ( I treat myself to a small cake piece to a designer bag to diamonds, it all depends on my pocket).

I feel so positive and charged up to write better when my work is appreciated. I don’t forget to remind myself of the reason and the dreams which I saw while I started writing, this helps me to focus on my work better. In short, I motivate myself.

Q5. One relationship who contributed in making your blog.

Romila: None. I am a self-made person since I was a kid. This is a fact which can be cross-checked by consulting my mother. I have been an independent personality from the age of 3. I learned things on my own. For writing and blogging, I had no gurus, my mom definitely encouraged but it took all my efforts and time to reach this place as a blogger.  There have been times when I was told to pick one – blogging or relationship and I have always gone with blogging.

As I answer this questionnaire, on the side on Twitter, I was made fun by non-blogging followers who asked me did I buy a mansion with the income I get from writing and blogging. It was in bad taste but I just ignored. People have always tried to pull me down but I was/ I am and I will remain firm on my ground.

Q6. One factor, out of your comfort zone in blogging.

Romila: I never stepped out of my comfort zone as a blogger but yes as a featured writer, I have written a lot on parenting and childcare from 2008-2010  for a magazine Eternal Solutions. I am not a parent but it is just sheer good luck that my posts got accepted & appreciated by readers – the parents I mean. It has been almost close to 7 years I have not stepped out of my comfort zone but I know I can handle a different niche/genre well.

Q7. A book / movie / person / blog that transformed you.

Romila: Believe it or not, the person who transformed me into the person I am right now is just myself.  It’s not easy to do this, but I’m about to expose myself to people who, in many ways, admire me.

Some of you reading this have known me for years and never known about me as a person. As hard as all of this is to admit, it’s something I owe to my readers, and most importantly, myself. vulnerability, damage, and pain can lead to strength, survival, and reinventionI’m living proof of it.

I woke up one morning and decided the pain was only getting worse. I realized time wasn’t healing any wounds, it was creating them. I didn’t want to live like that anymore. I was so far down I needed an escape. That’s when I created an ideal version of myself, who in many ways was the complete opposite of this weak person I had become.

I didn’t want to live in denial; I literally wrote out every part of my life. So when I write about life in shades of gray or tweet about it and tell my readers/followers that embracing your inner badass is possible, it’s because I lived through it and it doesn’t matter how you find him/her because it may not be the perfect path or even the safest.

What matters is that what you do. She’s there waiting and if you let her, she’ll guide you out of whatever weakness is suffocating you. I would never promise you something I wasn’t sure existed.

Q8. Your strength and weakness as a blogger.

Romila: My strengths and weaknesses are

Strengths: Positive attitude, patience, creativity, learning, helping other bloggers, study about technical aspects of the HTML, plugins and themes and much more.

Weaknesses:  None! I never suffered writer’s block since I have been writing so I don’t think I have anything negative to me.

Q9. One principle you are proud of.

Romila: Eliminating small obstacles. I make a list of the problems that I would like to remove from my life including the minor ones and I start with the easiest to solve.

In this way, I get into the habit of thinking, I know what I want, and I know how to get it. Once this mindset is developed, trust me, you’ll stop resigning yourself to your current situation and start making larger positive changes like how I have made and I keep making.

Q10. Blogging tips to share with your readers.

Romila: I feel happy to share my blogging tips here

  1. Don’t measure stats too early. If you’re obsessing over daily numbers and you’re only a few months into your blogging journey, you’re wasting your time.
  2. Never underestimate the importance of networking. If you’re not connecting regularly with readers and other bloggers, you’re missing out.
  3. Don’t give up. Bloggers who stick with it ultimately win.
