Be The Change That You Want To See In The World

Any small random acts of kindness are more appreciable than any big deed. The world goes around because of these kinder people. I really salute  Padmanaban Gopalan and his friends for their kindness deeds.

Padmanaban Gopalan wanted to stop the colossal amounts of food that people are throwing away every day. In his 2nd year at college, he co-founded the green club at GCT. Read his full story here.

No Food Waste donates excess food to the needy. It was started in January 2015 with the goal to reduce food wastage. In the last two years, the organization has grown by leaps and bounds as it set up centers in nine cities. Their motto is  ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’.

An initiative of city-based NGO, No Food Waste and local restaurant Kollywood Cafe, the first Sidewalk Fridge in Tamil Nadu to feed the poor was launched at R S Puram in Coimbatore. The fridge will allow the public to share excess food with poor people. All one has to do is to pack the food and keep it inside the sidewalk fridge from where the needy can take it.

  1. Kudos to these young men for such noble initiative. Thank you for sharing this Vasantha, I have saved the number and will share it with others too 🙂

  2. What a wonderful project these men are doing. I often wonder during a big celebration what will happen to the food. It is almost never all eaten. Perhaps this idea can spread around the globe to help others. Thanks for sharing this Vasantha!

  3. Vasantha this is beautiful. Kindness pays.. It pays with such an amazing feeling in our heart even the smallest things that we could do for others make us so happy. As Joey says.. No kind act is selfless because they make us happy.

  4. That’s very noble. I had heard about this initiative when I was in Coimbatore. So glad that they are getting more recognition. May be there be no wastage and more noble projects.

  5. it’s nice to read about positive change in a world that seems filled with despair. I really admire them for not just lamenting about the waste of food but doing something about it instead. May their tribe increase.

  6. Lovely initiatives! Appreciate the acts of kindness and that is happening around us! It encourages us to give more! The fridge initiative is now in Chennai too. Good things take time to spread, but happens because of those noble hearts who go out of their way to accomplish things!
Thanks Vasantha for sharing this article!

  7. That’s a beautiful initiative… I have read and heard about them before. Yes, if we want to see change in the world, we need to make that happen ourselves. Very inspiring and generous young men.

  8. Such noble initiatives are much needed in India since we believe in having abundance. The amount of food we cook on daily basis is much more than other countries, I believe and we end up wasting a lot in the process. These young men have really done a great service by channelising the excess food to the people who actually need it.

  9. What a great initiative. So much of food is wasted these days especially during the so called grand Indian weddings. Atleast these guys make sure they reach the needy. And thanks to you for making us aware of this initiative

  10. What a great way initiative. So much of food is wasted during our so called big fat Indian weddings. If more of us do this we can help that food reach the needy. And thanks to you for making us aware of this!
P.S – By the way, I had commented on this post yesterday. I think it got lost somewhere. Just came back to see the name of the guy who started this initiative. That’s when I saw my comment missing so reposting
